New research has also shown that smokers who eat raw garlic twice a week might be able to decrease their risk by a whopping 30%. And, among non-smokers, the chances of getting lung cancer might be reduced by almost 50%. Not bad!

The report that detailed the results of this study was published in the journal, Cancer Prevention Research. Experts stated that individuals who ate raw garlic at least twice a week slashed their risk of lung cancer by around 44%, even if they were exposed to cooking oil fumes, which are believed to be a potential trigger for this disease.

All of the people who participated in this study were asked questions about their eating habits and lifestyle, such as the number of times that they ate garlic, and whether they smoked or ever had smoked in the past.

The study, however, didn’t examine whether or not cooked garlic, or equivalent supplements, would have the same effect on lung cancer.
